Description

Naula Ancient City is located in Mahmutlar Mevkii, about 10 km. from Alanya district of Antalya. The ancient city is located on the flat area northeast of Mahmutlar.

There are opinions that the city, whose history is not well documented, was the harbor of the nearby ancient city of Leartes. Architecturally, the two cities have similar features.

Built on 33 acres, Naula Ancient City is located 200 meters from the sea. In the city, which is a protected area and surrounded by walls, there are artifacts dating back to the Byzantine Period. Many of its buildings are in ruins. Among the most important ruins of the city, which reflects the culture, architecture and urban planning of the Eastern Roman Empire, six temples, two churches and an ancient theater stand out. The large number of places of worship suggests that the city was in a position where clergymen were trained or assumed the role of a religious center.
