It is located in the Altinkaya (Zerk) district of Manavgat, Antalya province. It is reached by a 55 km long asphalt road that follows the Köprüçay River northwards from the Taşağıl junction of the Antalya-Manavgat Highway. It is 80 kilometers from the centre of the district. It is one of the important cities of the Pisidia region. Its connection (Eurymedon) is with the cities of Pamphylia via the Köprüçay valley. Its trade was carried out with the port of Aspendos at the mouth of this river and its relations were strengthened by the monetary union it established with Aspendos. As a result of this natural dependence, it was withdrawn within the borders of the Pamphylian province in 25 AD. Its foundation is attributed to Kalchas in the later Hellenic epics. The fact that it was a native Anatolian city is evidenced by the name Estlegiiys on the coins.
The region was part of the Lydian Kingdom before the Persian invasion in 547 BC. It remained under Persian sovereignty until the arrival of Alexander of Macedon in 334 BC, and was rewarded for its resistance to Alexander with independence during the Hellenistic period (330 BC - 30 AD). The population of the city, which flourished during the Roman period, increased to 20 thousand people according to Strabo. This process continued until the Byzantine period, when the population was Christianised. In the 13th century, it came under Turkish rule and became a nomadic settlement under the name of Zerk, derived from Selge. The ruins of the city today consist mainly of the city walls and the acropolis. The remains of the gymnasium, stoa, stadium and basilica have been preserved. The foundations of two temples have also been preserved. The most intact structure is the theatre, which was rebuilt in the 3rd century AD. There are many ancient buildings along the Köprüçay River and the road that follows it (Arch Bridge, Böğrüm Bridge, Ancient Road, Garrison Buildings, Waterway, Chapel, etc.).
Selge is also within the boundaries of Köprülü Canyon National Park, a recreational area with high scenic value, forests with many endemic species, canyons with a natural geological formation.
